Sermon – “By The Power Of The Holy Spirit”

10 And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. 2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and [a]Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the [b]Cananite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. 5 These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: “Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans. 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven [c]is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, [d]cleanse the lepers, [e]raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. 9 Provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts, 10 nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; for a worker is worthy of his food. 11 “Now whatever city or town you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there till you go out. 12 And when you go into a household, greet it. 13 If the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. 15 Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city! Persecutions

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead [f]bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all [g]principality and power.

11 Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.

4 I charge you [a]therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead [b]at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

14 And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is [c]an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. 16 So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.” 17 Then Jesus answered and said, “O [d]faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.” 18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” 20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your [e]unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 [f]However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

The man you will God with us he has come and His Holy Spirit is here with us now as with us every day Amen you know that she said The kids love that song to do doo doo doo doo doo song I don’t bother trying to can I just start singing Do do do do do until she quits. Because it’s too hard to keep up with his duty to do until he’s done OK then I quit I love to get a couple extra due to do Xin there. But that is a fun song in his good the God wants us to enjoy life he wants us to laugh he wants us to enjoy one another and laugh at one another so you can laugh at me all you want. By the power of the Holy Spirit as my title today for a sermon and it is by the power of the Holy Spirit if we can do what we are able to do through Christ and for His glory I’m am going to read from Matthew Chapter 10 versus one through 15 hear the word of the Lord and when he called out they’re called his 12 disciples to him he gave them power he gave them the power he has the authority to give the power to whom he wills to give the power to so Christ gave His disciples power over unclean spirits to cast them out to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease and I thought this next part very interesting I know sometimes it takes me a while with all my pausing to get through my scripture reading but I think it’s very interesting now the names of the 12 Apostles are these and all but how wonderful that God through the spear a day name each one why because he knows each one of them personally and my friends he knows your name and that wonderful he knows your name he knows you intimately he knows who you are all here the names of the Apostles. 1st Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother James the son of Zebedee and John his brother Philip and both all of you Thomas and Matthew the tax collector James the son of Alphaeus and whose surname was status Simon the Canaanite and Judas Iscariot who also betrayed him these 12 Jesus sent out and commanded them saying do not go into the way the Gentiles and do not enter a city of the Samaritans but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel and as you go preach sane the kingdom of heaven is at hand heal the sick cleanse the leper raise the dead glory what power raise the dead cast out demons freely you have received freely give to provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts nor bag for your journey nor to tunics nor sandals nor staff for a worker is worthy of his food. Now whatever city or town you enter and enquire who in it is worthy and stay there till you go out and when you go into a household greet it and if the household is worthy that your peace come upon it but if it is not worthy let your peace return to you and whoever will not receive you nor hear your words when you depart from that house or city shake off the dust from your feet assuredly I say to you it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah or and the day of judgment then then for this city may God has blessed into the hearing and the reading of His Holy Word let us pray gracious Father we do thank you and praise you for your words we believe that every word in this book that we call the Bible this wonderful 66 Kampala patient of books is from you we believe that you inspired to choose gave it on to men to pass down through the generations and father May we live by it may we believe in it we know that this book has words of life and father may you speak words of life into our hearts today may your spirit be here in President a mighty way and for your glory in Jesus’ name amen we don’t often think about that part about shaking the dust off your feet I mean this is not I’m a sermon but if they would reject this outright reject this disciples reject the message they have for the people they were to as a sign to shake off the dust and you know you had your chance you refused it shake off the does it is your blood is on your own hands not mine because I presented you the word that’s basically what he’s telling the disciples there. By this time frame in this space of time the disciples surely had already witness Jesus perform many miracles we know you know I don’t know if this chronologically how long this was that they’d been with him for 6 months or a year I’m not sure how long but we know that they had seen him heal the leper we know that he had healed Peter’s mother in law and it says many others were healed we know that he delivered a demon possessed man we know that he healed a paralyzed man and the many teachings that they have heard so he’s performed many miracles but at this point the master has determined that it’s time to send out my students it’s time to send them out on the room going to give them power I’m going to send them out and see what they do and it gives them a very clear instructions concerning who they should go to and what they should preach the lost sheep of the house of Israel that is where they were to 1st go and preach the Good News salvation has come through the Drouet to the Jews my friends so therefore I believe it is right that they should be the 1st to hear some I said well that why that’s not fair they share but it is fair that they should hear whenever a farmer plants across up who is the very 1st to taste of the harvests the farmer right unless someone sneaks in but the farmers the 1st to taste of the harvest. Well in the same way the Savior came to the Jews so ought not they be the 1st to taste of the harvest they men I hope you agree with me there is just my way off the field should be Romans $116.00 says for I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes for the Jew 1st and also this is for us also the Greeks Hallelujah praise God that it is for us that’s why we’re here today because it is for everyone but the Jew 1st nets his will their message was to be clear the kingdom of heaven is that hand is that hand mean it is upon us it is here get ready prepare your hearts but is that the same message that we are to proclaim today now our message today is to proclaim to Christ has come that he has suffered and died that he shed his blood that he took our sins upon itself that is the message today that we must repent and believe on Him and receive His Holy Spirit that is the message that we need the church or to take into the nations in the world today was preaching all they were to do when they went on testing years if you’re paying attention OK good I’m seein headshake No no they were to heal the sick cleanse a leper raised the dead cast out demons. The students are getting the opportunity the chance to go out and experience what the teacher taught them by example so I want you to use your imagination to Smalling I want you all to imagine that you are an in turn it a hospital so imagine that you’re it in turn and you’ve been there for a couple years now you’ve been working along a masterful surgeon I mean his hands are just so delicate when he performs surgeries is amazing you know they have to have gifted hands you know we think of the surgeon that does back surgery or brains or do they have to have gifted hands and they say that there is such a connection between their their eyes and their hands and their coordination it is amazing so you’ve imagine you’ve worked alongside this man for a couple years now you’re in turn he’s taught you and showed you all along the way and you’re in the middle of surgery one day and that surgeon says steps back and says Here take my tools what’s a good thing that person’s under anesthesia. Because they couldn’t see the big discredit come out only a forehead right it couldn’t see your hand just shaken because I’m sure you’d be nervous if that would actually happen to you oh I could imagine but the masterful surgeon would say calm down I’ve taught you well I’ve seen I know that you’ve learned calm down step in there I’ll guide you through this and that’s the same thing the master tells us right Be not afraid I will guide you I will get you through this obviously we will never experience anything so dramatic as taking over one surgery one day but we have all experienced on some level stepping out. On doing the things that we’ve learned whether we was an internist a student teacher and then now we have our classroom of our own and we can teach what we had learned or whether we was a carpenter alongside of an apprentice and one day the guy says here the Saul you’ve watched me long enough it’s time for you to do it I was there one day the guy says Hey one you can do this take the SOL and go do it you know here here’s your chance or whether we was so whatever and in turn are prone to some kind of we’ve all had our opportunity to step out and do that which we have learned amazing to disciple step and now I know that none of these compare with what Jesus was allowing the disciples to do that day to go out he entrusted them with the work of the kingdom what could compare to that this is the master of the universe the creator saying I’ve given you power and I’m going to send us isn’t it amazing that God involves mankind in his plans doesn’t that all you it does me it all’s me that God involves us in that plan and Jesus was he is a creator John 11 through 3 says in the beginning was the Word and the Word was WITH God and the Word was God he was in the beginning with God all things were made through Him and without him nothing was made that was made without Jesus nothing was made that was made so he is Creator created the universe sending them out he has power and authority to give to them ever he wills Colossians to 9 through 14 in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily and you are complete in Him who is the head Jesus Christ speaking of is the head of all principality and power. Some people might say well if Jesus Christ has all power over all principality in power then why why is there so much evil why is he allowed that evil to happen in the world today why did he allow this bad thing to happen to my neighbor or this bad thing to happen to me why then if he has all power and authority the ever answer must friends a simple It’s called freewill that’s it we have to accept that it’s hard sometimes to wonder standard but we must accept it because it is free will that person chose to live an evil life to do that wicked thing that needs a to the true because of free will he does have the power and authority but he gives mankind the free will the 12 disciples were they just common ordinary men or extraordinary men. But they were ordinary men but they didn’t mazing extraordinary things by the parable of the spirit. Ordinary men most of them lived in and around the Sea of Galilee which offered a livelihood for many generations it is very probable that at least 7 of the disciples were fisherman ordinary jobs they would go out and fish at night they spent probably the early part of their day mending or cleaning up their nets right this is what Andrew was dong whenever Jesus called him to follow him he said come the Follow me he was mending these net. Andrew’s brother who was Simon Peter he watched Jesus get into a boat and pushed it out was preaching to the people he thought himself that is someone that I could surrender my life to and he did James and his brother John they also were mending their Met mending their nets with their father’s anybody when Jesus called them they were business owners they had more than one boat they had hired people to work for them they walked away from it followed Jesus Matthew what would see a tax collector he was among those that were despised I’m regarded as traitors among his people then there was Simon the other Simon the Canaanite he was referred to as Simon result because he was a member of a religious sect called the zealots zealots like Simon they engaged in political politics and then Archy in hopes of instigating a revolution that would overthrow the Roman Roman government so when Simon joins us as a disciple he remains Ellis but his new allegiance and loyalty was to Jesus Christ not a rebellion the occupations of all 12 are not known to Thomas and the thing you all may have been fishermen also and in all likelihood Philip James and Judas were tradesmen of some sort but regardless of the profession they left behind everything to follow Jesus he said Come follow me they drop their nets or they drop their tools they drop whatever and they follow Jesus they said yes ordinary men indued with power from the sovereign One God has used many over the years to demonstrate His power through His Holy Spirit in Acts Chapter 1011 through 12 now God worked on usual miracles by the hands of Paul. So that even handkerchief or aprons were brought from his body to the sick and the disease left them and evil spirits went out he had that much power of the Holy Spirit upon him take a handkerchief touch a person a sick they’re made well my friends of power the Holy Spirit still work today now this is not a real modern story from the 800 S. though Charles G. Finney a 19th century evangelist he was a man who demonstrated the obvious presence of God during a visit to New York Mills and 826 he visited a cotton manufacturing plant where his brother in law was superintendent as finny passed through a spacious room in which many women were working at looms and spinning jennies he noticed several young women watching him and speaking among themselves as Finney approached them they became more agitated when Finney was about 10 feet away one woman sank to her sank to the ground and burst into tears soon others were sobbing overcome with conviction of their sins this outpouring the spirit spread rapidly throughout the building until the entire factory was singularly aware of God’s presence the owner who was a nonbeliever realize God was at work and temporary closed temporarily closed the plant he asked Mr Finney to preach to his employees and tell them how they might find peace for themselves from a number lever Phinney had not spoken one word not one word to these laborers he had simply entered into that factory in God’s powerful presence and Finney’s life had been too overwhelming to ignore. Just his entrance into that place not a word why why could one believer walk into a factory and not say a word just his presence there bring people to their knees How could another have so much presence of the Holy Spirit that a handkerchief taken to someone could heal them you know sometimes I ask myself questions as I read and study in these stories and like this one like woman Charles finning so Maisie I wonder I wondered in my mind to God revealed to Charles Finney that morning that you’re going to you’re going to walk into this plant and I’m going to bring people to their knees I wonder if God revealed that to him I don’t know the answer to that I’ve not read his journal fee if he Journal that he may have or did Charles Finney just enter into that factory that day think and I’m going to have a casual visit in a tour through my brother malls or the plant we’re all Bromo Super 10 but God was at work was the presence of the Holy Spirit that powerful upon Mr Finney or was the Holy Spirit working in the lives of these employees before he even got there so we don’t know the answer to that but we do know who gets the glory right the Holy Spirit it’s the glory rather it was that powerful palm Mr Finney or whether it was working in there now you may not agree with me but I’m going to say it’s teamwork it’s teamwork the Holy Spirit working with man working in the lives of the men and women working together with man again so mazing that God uses mankind to accomplish his will his plans. You know sometimes God does reveal what he’s about to do not always but sometimes he does we know that he revealed to Samuel what he was about to do concerning in his son’s agony Old Testament God revealed the same way that he was going to judge Eli’s house because the sons has made themselves vile and he lied did not restrain them so he revealed to them that is son for going to be destroyed we know that God revealed on to Abraham what he was about to do Sodom and Gomorrah but this does not always mean that God is always going to reveal what he’s going to do every day does it we can’t put God in a box and say this is the way he’s going to operate because he’s God So what is our duty 2nd Timothy $41.00 and $2.00 I charge you therefore before God in the Lord Jesus Christ who will judge the living and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom preach the Word and here’s the key be ready in season and out of season convince rebuke exhort with all longsuffering in teaching so in case God doesn’t reveal what we do we be ready in season and out of season and we are ready every moment of every day because we don’t know that when the when we are going to walk into a place and someone might fall to their knees before us and what we have to do we’ve got to be ready to lead them to Jesus Christ. You know there’s no doubt in my mind that God could choose to do anything he wanted by the nothing but spiritual forces he absolutely could choose to do that if he wanted to God could have chosen to send his spirit into Egypt and destroy all the Egyptians and that Israel just walked right out of their. But he didn’t choose to do it that way he chose to use Moses he chose to reveal his glory to those people if you remember many Egyptians went with them because they believe right now for whatever reason God has chosen to include man con and not say thank you Lord thank you he knows he knows why what is the key point today what is the key that unlocks the power of the Holy Spirit the Holy Spirit that is given unto them that repent of their sins and believe in with the Lord Jesus Christ their baptize it’s the same Holy Spirit the same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead the same Holy Spirit that he gave to disciples and they went out in a healed the sick and they raised the dead cleanse the lepers the same Holy Spirit was the key quiet one is followed I’m going to get to more but as a cycles What did they do they dropped their everything and said Yes Lord and they followed and then willingness we have to be willing to be used you know there were times when the disciples run successful and Matthew 17. Only read a passage from Acts Chapter 13. It’s 191-3216 then some of the I 10 or juries exorcise took it upon themselves to call in the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits saying we exercise you in and by the Jesus whom Paul preaches Also there were 7 sons of ski Eva a Jew He’s chief priest who did so an evil spirit answered and said Jesus I know and Paul I know but who are you the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped upon them overpowered them and prevailed against them so that they fled out of the house naked and wounded the key again Jesus I know Paul I know or whatever believer but who are you they did not know Jesus Christ there is another crucial key knowing him knowing Him intimately personally the Holy Spirit my friends in lightens us it regenerates us it leads us into holiness it transforms us transforms our lives it gives us assurance it gives us the gift for the ministry for His glory not the make us look good for His glory. God works through us in US touching our hearts or character that is all done through the Holy Spirit fun we read from Joel I have a couple extra ones that I threw in there last minute. Joel Chapter 2 verses 28 through 32 this is the word of the Lord. And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh your sons and your daughters shall prophesied your old men shall dream dreams your young men shall see visions and also my men servant and on my maid servants I will pour out my spirit in those days and I will show you wonders in the heaven and in the earth blood and fire and pillars of smoke the sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the coming of the great an awesome day of the Lord and it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance as the Lord has said among the wren that whom the Lord calls and I want to add another one Acts chapter 2 verse 5 verses when the day of Pentecost had fully come they were all with one accord in one place and suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind and it filled the whole house where they were sitting then there appeared to them divided tongues as of fire and one sat upon each of them and they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues as a Spirit gave them utterance and there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews devout men from every nation under heaven and when the sound occurred the multitude came together and were confused because everyone heard them speak in their own language you know usually as I prepare sermons It is a week long process because he you know I do have a night and I try to work on it but he continually speaks through me to me I mean to me through me whatever and actually just this morning in my prayer time and I’m thinking there’s a connection there Pentecost Pentecost is the celebration of Feast of Weeks one in the same thing. Correct one in the same thing Pentecost is 50 days after Passover follow me here let’s go back to Passover Passover in Egypt what did the Israelites Do they had to apply the blood to the doorpost right they applied the blood when the destroyer came of the destroyer seeing the blood on the doorposts what happened passed over that’s where the name came from right passed over that household and they lived Jesus Christ is our Passover He is our pastor broom we apply his blood to our lives the destroyer passes over us we have a life correct I mean it’s elementary we understand it it’s easy 50 days from Passover back in the Old Testament again they were commanded to celebrate the Feast of Weeks Pentecost What was it it was a celebration of the harvest they glorified God they brought to God the 1st fruits that’s what Pentecost is they bring to God they sacrifice to God the 1st fruits it was 50 days after Jesus was crucified it at Passover he appeared to them was with them for 40 days and he told them wait he told them the weight my father is going to send the Spirit so Wait don’t go out until you receive the Holy Spirit again you’re thinking well why couldn’t it just happen as soon as Jesus ascended to the father why didn’t the spirit come I think the key I just read because the multitude were there in Jerusalem because he knew that they were all going to come to Druce and they’re going to congregate there it 50 days. So they waited and at the 50 days at Pentecost the Feast of Weeks God Poor is out his speared and his like a bomb goes off man with the power of the spirit you get that it’s like wow he wanted the masses there to poor out his spear $3000.00 were saved that day and then they went to the other parts of the world and preach the gospel how to the power of the Holy Spirit so there’s the sacrifice that’s what God just a small one was like this Herrmann a sin to me the sacrifice of the 1st fruits what is a sacrifice what is the 1st fruit that we give unto him right here ourselves our selves died daily Ah I die daily when I say I died daily that is I’m giving up self in offering that up to him I’m glad he gave me the ending for this this morning because I think that’s the key is that we die daily if we want to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit if we want to to emanate from us in a way that people call their names without us even speaking a word then we better dot daily we better offer up the sacrifice of Pentecost to him the 1st fruits which is our lives we give it up to him we not go and we give it to him if we haven’t done that these alters are always open if you feel you need to. Come and read new and again say Lord I want to dive to you today I want to give it to you Come we’ll pray with you cry and so I have today. But that’s what he gave I’m so glad he gave me the ending this morning because that’s what we need to do I think that’s the key we can’t walk around selfishness and walk in the part of the Holy Spirit the same time it ain’t going to happen it is not going to happen. We are of only going to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit when we surrender to him are all human.
