Matthew 21:1-16

21 Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage,[a] at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me. 3 And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.” 4 All[b] this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: 5 “Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.’”[c] 6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them.

Luke 4:18-21

John 8:58-59

Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” 59 Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

John 10:30-33

30 I and My Father are one.” 31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him. 32 Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?” 33 The Jews answered Him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.”

We should all be thankful thankful every day thankful every day for the life that we have and you know as we enter into the Easter season we’re thankful we’re thankful for the courage for Christ’s willingness to come we know that when Christ came to earth he knew what he was going to have to endure he knew the moment he came that there was coming a day when he would take the weight of the sins of the world upon himself that he was going to suffer and die for us he knew that when he came yet he was still going to came Amen praise the Lord this morning a message out titled Hosanna. And Hosanna means save now save now so that’s going to be the thing this morning Hosanna my scripture comes from Matthew chapter twenty one verses one through sixteen let’s turn to the word of the Lord this is a new King James Version. Now when they drew near Jerusalem and came to Bethpage at the Mount of Olives then Jesus sent two disciples saying to them go into the village opposite you and immediately you will find a donkey tied and a colt with or lose them and bring them to me and if anyone says anything to you you shall say The Lord has need of them and immediately he will send them all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet saying tell the daughter of Zion behold your King is coming to you lonely sitting on a donkey a colt the fall of a donkey so the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them they brought the donkey and the colt laid their clothes on them and set him on them and a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road I want to pause for a moment it says a very great multitude. Spread. They’re close and you know what I did the recent research trying to figure out how many were there and you know I found figures to say that there may have been up to a hundred thousand people there you know we kind of we might envision in our mind a little crowd gathered to watch Jesus enter into Drusilla I’m Charles Spurgeon says there was no less than three thousand but you know as I pondered this in my heart it says a very great multitude and I think of the feeding of the four thousand feet into the five thousand and what does it say in the passage and when those cases it says the multitude set down and eight then we know that with the four thousand and the five thousand that they were only counting the men so you figure if. A large percentage of them had wives and they had children you could almost multiply that by four five thinking of the feeding of the four and five thousand so the feeding of the four and five thousand could have been twenty or twenty five thousand people so this is not just a multitude but a very great multitude so I am leaning to what a more than three thousand people. Was there to watch Jesus enter into Jerusalem it wasn’t just your little Hinky Dink town parade there was a great amount of people to witness his triumph when Cheree into Drusilla men. The says then the multitude who went before and those who followed crying out Hosanna to the son of David bless it is he who comes in the name of the Lord Hosanna in the highest and when he had come into Jerusalem all the city was moved saying Who is this so the multitude said this is Jesus the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who brought who bought and sold in the temple. And overturned the tables of money or the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold us and he said to them it is written my house will be called a house of prayer but you have made it a den of thieves then the blind then the lame came to him in a temple and he healed them but when the chief priest in a scribe saw all the wonderful things that he did and the children saying or the children crying out in a temple and saying Hosanna to the son of David they were indignant. And said to him Do you hear what these are saying and Jesus said to them Yes Have you never read out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have perfected praise imagine this there are those high and dignified chief priests there even envious of what the little children are saying about Jesus how full. Of jealousy and grief and pride greed and pride are they filled HALL Let’s pray Father God thank you so much for your word we thank you for your word that reveals your love for us we thank you Father for your your word it guides us and Father God we just sank you for your Holy Spirit and power and pray that your spirit would be here that each heart or God would be touched and receive what you have forced today by the May we leave this place change may we leave this place closer to you May we leave this place with a better understanding of what you have done for us Father what it means what it means to each one of us that we can be set free that we can have life and have it abundantly Father God may you be glorified today in Jesus name Amen. You know I know that. Over the years if you preach long enough you’re bound to preach in the same thing a number of times. And you know when we get to the Easter season or the Christmas season surely we’re going to be preaching on the same thing and you know I know that I’ve preached on the triumphal enter before but you know what it is possible to preach on that same passage many different times and never repeat yourself because you know I believe that God’s word is new every day it is new every day we might read up passage today we might read it three months from now and it will speak something different to us amen because it is new it is possible it is possible to to preach on the triumphant entry this week and you know what next week I can preach on the birth. All right you’re looking at me like come on he’s losing that now walk in I can preach on the birth next week because when he rose up out of that grave he made it possible that we can be reborn alright you follow me OK We got it we got that straightened out OK You know this passage of the triumph or entered like many others found in the Gospel to me this is what I got out of it this time it reveals how Jesus was always absolutely and completely in control. Of every situation of every circumstance. Surrounding his life and you know what he can have the same control over our lives. Through the Holy Spirit Amen yes. We see it in him sending the two disciples he tells them. Exactly where to go go to the village opposite you and now when you get there you’re going to find a donkey and a colt tied there he didn’t tell them to go to the door knock on the door and ask for permission to get those donkeys in the dock in a fault he says no you just start on Tottenham and if somebody comes along and says something all you got to say the Master has need of them. You know if you look out the door and someone’s out there in your car they’re out there. Bemba get in the door open enough trying to get that thing starter you run out there if they say the Master has need of it you can say almost or just go ahead and take it. I know some They’re going to run under the gun where you think you’re born get away from a car. But the Lord already touch that man’s heart. So I’ll tell you this of the Lord touches your heart and says someone’s coming to borrow your car if the Lord’s telling you that you better than take a car. So Lord already touched and spoke to his heart and then asked the the owner did say what you don’t loosen these animals the Lord has need of them will bow me as you take them because the Lord needs them. It unfolded exactly as Jesus said no surprises no surprises you know there’s several other amazing examples of Jesus being in control the next one is found in Luke Chapter four. And just a little bit of background before I read the scripture they have where Jesus had just entered his home town of Nazareth. He just entered at home town. And you know it’s where he grew up the people there knew him. And as was his custom when he entered Nazareth He went into the synagogue and began to preach. So I did a little research on synagogues and I don’t have it all with me but in a synagogue. They had a pedestal in the center in the center of the building the center of the room and that is where the reader or the person leading prayers would go to that pedestal so they would be in the center of the room so all eyes would be focused on them and normally they would stand a had a little reading desk where they would stand in a position where they’d be facing the ark so Jesus goes. Is in there and opens the book and by coincidence he happens open up to Isaiah you believe that no it was not by coincidence but he opens the book up and begins to read from Isaiah and here is what he read Luke Chapter four verses eight hundred twenty one he says the spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor he has sent me to heal the broken hearted to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind into set at liberty those who are oppressed to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord then he closed the book gave it back to the attendant and sat down and the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on him and he began to say that to them today. This scripture is fulfilled and you are hearing. My friends by his declaring that to day this scripture is fulfilled in your theory he’s proclaiming himself to be the Messiah. Amen yes he’s proclaiming to be the Messiah the one who would bring all these things to pass some receive this word with gladness some marveled at his gracious words but others were filled with anger because he said these things verse twenty nine and through thirty says and they rose up in the this is in the middle the sir they rose up. And they thrust him out of the city and they led him to the brow of a hill in which their city was built that they might throw him down over the Clift. Then he passed right through the midst of them I love this I love the visual here there’s this crowd desiring mob they’ve got Jesus by the arm the poor one in there pushing into talking all these people around him are taking him right. To the cliff they get to the cliff you follow me there they get to the Clifton or like we’re to go. We’re to go up Bob what we have he may have a right there ready to sell them. He just walked around walk right through them. In complete control. Complete control. Another occasion. When the religious leaders attempted to kill Jesus in John Chapter eight verses fifty eight and fifty nine Jesus said to them most assuredly I say to you before Abraham was I am. Then they took up stones to throw at him but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple going through the midst of them so passed them by Again he passed right through the midst of them. Then an act in John Chapter ten versus thirty three thirty three Jesus declares I am my Father are one then the Jews took up stones against him to stone Him Jesus answered many good works I have shown you. From my father for which of these works do you stone me the Jews answered in saying for a good work we do not stay on you but for blasphemy because you being a man make yourself God So every time he proclaimed to be the Messiah claim to be God they rose up in anger to either try to cast him off of a clift or to stone him. But Jesus had complete control in every situation. But you know there’s many other factors into why they failed in their attempts to kill Jesus whether it be to cast him off the cliff to or to stone him because it was not their time. It was not in God’s timing it was not in God’s plan it was not his purpose because you know to be the Passover Lamb It must be at Passover. So wasn’t the time for one thing. The timing was not right and then one more thing he was not to be cast down. Off of a clift. Say to him was cast down. When he was cast out of heaven right Jesus was not to be cast down but he was to be lifted up. He knew the Father’s plan he spoke of it Jesus said If I be lifted up from the earth I will draw all men to myself in John twelve thirty two Jesus knew he had to be lifted up from the earth. And then the crowd be drawn to him he knew that you know there are three ways in which Jesus lifted up from the earth. And each one of those ways drawls man unto him the first being lifted up in the crucifixion. We are drawn to the cross because it is the cross that reveals His Love for mankind it is a cross that reveals his passion it is the cross reveals that our sins were cast upon him he must be lifted up from the earth. It’s a sad thing that such an atrocious device is what draws men to him. But even if the said one man should die for the people. That was fulfilling prophecy but he is also lifted up from the grave. How will you because he is lifted up from the grave that we too can be lifted up from the grave and have victory over death. He is lifted up in the Ascension. That he is seated at the right hand of the father amen because he. Lives we can live because he is went to prepare a place for us that we to know that someday we will send that we will be lifted up. So now let’s return back full circle to this trial for entry if you ever ask yourself if you ever wondered why why did he enter into Jerusalem on a donkey why not a mighty horse. If you ever give never ask yourself that question because you probably knew the answer. Let’s look back let’s go back to the Old Testament to Solomon’s coronation but you don’t probably have that scripture but back in first kings. There are some events surrounding Solomon’s coronation when David had become well advanced in years. On a some like that term well advanced in years his eldest son added out an agile. He took advantage of his father’s Oh he took advantage as of his father’s weakness he seeing that you know his father didn’t have too many days left so he conspired with the king’s men he conspired with the military leaders he conspired with the men to be scored he conspired with those either so you see that my father is getting old his days are getting numbered he says so it’s about time that we should go ahead and place myself upon the throne did I will succeed my father. Well he’s planned his plans troubled some people one was best Sheba because David had promised her that her son Solomon would succeed him as King So the king then that day took a nose and said sure as the Lord lives who has delivered me out of trouble I will surely carry out today what I have swore to you by the Lord the God of Israel he said Solomon your son shall be king after me he shall set on the throne in my place so he gave these. Actions Solomon said set my son on my mule my Loon donkey taken down to get on there have zero took the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him king over Israel blow the trumpet and shout Long live King Solomon bring him in on a parade a triumphal entry if you will and this they did they sounded to trumpet and all the people shouted Long live King Solomon and all the people went up after him play in their flute snarks are rejoicing the ground shook the ground was so to the lot the sound was so great they said. But all this news didn’t make everybody happy at a not giant and all those it conspired with him they fled they fled. The fact that the elements of this coronation were repeated three times in Kings indicates it’s very important. This is the first dynastic transfer of power in Israel’s history. Because remember David took over Saul’s position but Saul disobey God and it was taken from him so this is the first transfer. Zachariah nine nine says Rejoice great you know daughter of Zion shout daughter of Jerusalem see your king comes to you rightists and having salvation gentle riding on a donkey so you see the resemblance between Solomon’s coronation and Jesus triumphal entry. Jesus triumphal entry is almost like his coronation. So this example that Jesus set coming into Jerusalem the people that day would have understood it they understood the king coming. On a donkey as Solomon came on a donkey they would have understood that. There’s another reason it came on a donkey Now King David may have came on a horse because King David was a man of war. But Solomon was a king during a time of peace. He came one of donkey because Jesus was the king of peace not of war. He brings peace and you might look around say well Houser so much war in the world. The P.C. brings us to peace and here the peace that you can experience in your heart whenever you trust in Jesus Christ. They laid the palm branches on the road before and they laid their cloaks on the road because that too was a tradition they did the same thing for King Solomon that was a tradition. Palm Sunday actually originates with the Jewish festival SU cough also called the Festival of the tabernacle or booth which is probably the most popular holiday among the Jews in the first century. The observance of the souk author or spurs person proceeded through Jerusalem and in the temple waving in a right hand something called the look which was a bunch of leafy branches of Willow Myrtle one palm and as a way the branches they normally sang the song one eighteen save now I pray oh Lord oh Lord I pray send now prosperity bless it is he who comes in the name of the Lord we have blessed you from the house of the Lord. You know Hosanna is generally known to be an expression of praise it has a meaning very specific to Christ Jesus the word Hosanna comes from the Hebrew Hebrew word Haase Ayana and is recorded in the Greek Bible as Hosanna the literal definition of pose and it is say we pray help. We pray when combined with praise and adoration Hosanna is the recognition of salvation it comes through Jesus Christ alone our friends and we say Hosanna we are recognizing Jesus Christ as the Messiah the one by then we are saved by Him and by him alone. When we praise him as a son of David the king of the Jews we praise Him as Savior of the world. We recognize him as a savior for all mankind. Hosanna Hosanna to the son of David. You know many neck crowd that day may not have had the spiritual faith in Jesus. But they were seeking someone to deliver them from the Roman oppressors. But those many that may not have had a spiritual faith in him were the same ones and less than a week were crying crucify him. Their love that day turned to hatred less than a week. Because he was not the king that they were looking for they were looking for the king to deliver them right then that day from the Romans but my friends Jesus is so much more he is the king that will deliver you today Hosanna means saved now he does save now to day. Because today if you don’t know Christ you come to this altar or you kneeled down wherever you are and you say Lord forgive me Hosanna save now he will save you right now he will save you today. Hosanna in the highest let Jesus the King of Peace. Set You Free He says the Lord has annoyed me to preach he has sent me to heal the broken hearted my friends he will heal your broken heart. If your heart is broken I don’t care what broke your heart I don’t care if a loved one broke your heart I don’t care about a sickness broke your heart I don’t care what broke your heart but he can heal it he is the only one that can heal your broken heart. And he came to set the captives free. Whether you know it or not before you accepted Christ you were captive the same you were captive to sin. And Jesus is the only one that holds the key to set you free Hosanna save now will set you free from your sins. And now add this is not in there don’t let the devil come back to you and remind you of your sins because when you have been set free you are free indeed. So all you have to do insane comes back in tries to remind your past to say those then up has set me free set me free you are free indeed. And recovery of sight to the blind. Many out there are blind and I don’t mean that they’re blind and they can’t see it’s often going to run into this wall but they’re blinded to the Lord Jesus Christ. We need to pray that their eyes will be open we need to produce no. We all know Christmas and Easter is the time of the year the. Stows Smen he won’t go to church any other time. But those two times of the year. So let it be your prayer that their eyes will be. Open this Christmas and Easter season Christmas or Easter season that their blinded eyes will be open and that they would see that Jesus Christ is the way. That they can be set free let that be your prayer let’s pray or pray that earnestly this week that the eyes of the loss will be opened the eyes of our neighbors that I was of our family members that don’t know him would be open. Because he came to open the blinded eyes. That their eyes would be open spiritually Amen Hosanna save now he saves us now saves us today a man.
