2 Kings 4:1-7

4 A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.” 2 So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.” 3 Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few. 4 And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.” 5 So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out. 6 Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased. 7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.”

1 Kings 18:3-4

3 And Ahab had called Obadiah, who was [a]in charge of his house. (Now Obadiah feared the Lord greatly. 4 For so it was, while Jezebel [b]massacred the prophets of the Lord, that Obadiah had taken one hundred prophets and hidden them, fifty to a cave, and had fed them with bread and water.)

Good morning. Great to be in the house of the Lord Amen. Carol sharing that I’ve been traveling some here in the past few weeks or months whatever I have been traveling and you know as you travel back and put the radio on the praise and worship station and and you know even at work once in a while often actually. Bring the computer up Google and praise and worship songs and have praise and worship blame while I’m working and where we’re from in the office and traveling and you know it is good it’s good it helps you just to be praising the lord of worship to him and sing along with it in the car when no one else can hear it and then you say him praise the Lord for that and but you know that’s all good and it’s wonderful to get to be there and praising the Lord all the time but it’s much greater to be with brothers and sisters join together in worship just the spirit of the Lord is here just just so enjoy praising the Lord with brothers and sisters and with you all I met a message just morning I titled my God shall supply all your needs and our God is faithful to supply all of our needs are going to be reading from Second Kings Chapter four verses one through seven and a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the Prophet cried out to me live show saying your servant my husband is dead and you know that your servant feared the Lord and the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves. So you Lysis said to her what shall I do for you tell me what do you have in the house and she said your maid servant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil then he said Go borrow vessels from everywhere from all your neighbors empty vessels do not gather just a few and when you come when you have command you sell shut the door behind you and your sons then pour it into all those vessels and set aside the four ones so she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons who brought the vessels to her and she poured it out now it came to pass when the vessels were full that she said to her son bring me another vessel and he said to her there is not another vessel so the oil ceased and she came and told the man of God and he said Go sell the oil and pay your debt and Yunior sons live on the rest may God at His blessings to the here and in the region of His Holy Word that a spray Heavenly Father we do thank you and praise you that you provide for us in our time of need we thank you that you will never leave us nor for sake us we thank you for your presence in our lives each and every day we know that you are here at this hour and father just prayed that our ears and our hearts of be open to receive the blessing of your word today father just fill this place move us Father God move us with your presence father just help us to glorify you with our lives and father again we just sank you in Jesus’ name amen. Not according to the Targum which is a paraphrase portion of the Hebrew Scriptures written in Aramaic in Chaldee they claim that this woman was the wife of Obadiah the servant of a habit remember a have the king of Israel who took a wife a wicked wife named as a bill so they say that he well we know that Obadiah was a servant of a have and they think that Obadiah borrowed money to be able to feed the prop it’s that he had hidden in the case he hid province in the cage to prevent them from being murdered by wicked jazz a bell and you’ll find out accountant first Kings Chapter eighteen verses three thru four says and they have had called Obadiah who was in charge of his house now Obadiah feared the Lord greatly for her for so it was why jazz about massacre of the prophets of the Lord that Obadiah had taken one hundred prophets and hidden them fifty to a K. and had fed them with bread and water now there are some who dispute this claim that this was the wife of the Obadiah that was a servant of a have they claimed that Obadiah was a common name at that time so they’re saying that it may not have been that Obadiah but the truth is from Second Kings Chapter four it doesn’t mention the name of the wood woman’s husband. But if she wasn’t be the wife of this Obadiah the want to hid the profits protected them from Jessop Bell he was a very brave and selfless prophet a very humble man of God But the important thing is what she said about her husband the prophet what she had to say about her dead husband she says you know that your servant feared the Lord so whether or not it was that Obadiah her husband feared the Lord and was a faithful prophet of the Lord. Whomever he was he loved the Lord and now she had a problem for husband was dead and she had of the lemma there was no way that she could support herself she didn’t have a big insurance policy to fall back on they didn’t have such things back then the only thing that she had to help with her dire situation was her two sons they had to rely on family to help support them to provide for a future living expenses and the creditors were about to come and take away the only thing that she thought she could rely on that was her two sons the creditors were within their legal rights to go and take family members away they would often do things that in that day they would take them to members and either put them as slaves or servants to tender fields or flocks or do whatever until they completely paid off the debt they might have to work for years to pay off a debt of a family member sometimes they would also sell them to pay off the debt but brothers and sisters this is not God’s way of taking care of one’s debts God forbid lenders from taking away someone’s means of support was not something that God ordained and it’s not talking about persons but in Deuteronomy twenty four six it says no man shall take the lower or upper millstone in pledge for he takes ones living in pledge they were not to take away your means to be able to support yourself. In Proverbs twenty two seven it says the rich rules over the poor and the borrower is servant to the lender isn’t that so true there are two great burdens in life that everyone faces Karen already talked about one and that’s death and debt death is imminent right we all know that if the Lord tears and we lived to hopefully a ripe old age and we call talk about this in Sabbath school and the kid says You mean write like on a rifle peach. I said Yeah like a ripe old peach So if we live to be like a ripe old peach very old we know that sooner or later we’re going to face death we know that it’s coming so we have that in our future but the wonderful thing is we know God has provided eternal life through His Son Jesus Christ so we can face death with hope we can face it without fear when we have Jesus Christ in our heart Amen but also there is that debt that great burden it causes people to stress and worry and to work so hard remember the oh you’ve seen I’ve seen license plates with it on io i O. so off to work I go write I make one everybody has everybody seen that besides me IOW I O. so off to work I go right but the problem is many people have become so when slave to the lender and wanting them wanting when they don’t know the difference between need and want. When they want to that bigger house but do they really need that bigger house I want I really don’t I want a Cadillac instead of a Chevrolet has this kid in there because I really don’t. Want to Cadillac but I mean people have a hard time differentiating between the want and the need God may not provide for all those wants but he will provide that which we need he will sustain us. But we have we owe we owe so off to work we go and we stress and we were and we work overtime and we work six and seven days a week and we get so tired and stress when we just if we just trusted him for our needs and rested in him and know that he would provide you know last week I talked about identity and identity of the soldiers that lost their lives and then we had dinner or sales by names Well you know it sure would have been nice if they would have given us the name of this poor widow wouldn’t it would’ve been nice if she had a name so we could refer to her by name is that of that certain woman or that poor widow so I thought about well I’ll just give her name for the message with my core Sophie but then actually then the scripture came to mind what we should not add to or take away so we discover that certain woman I was going to coarser but she was very wise whatever her name was she was a very wise woman because she took she knew where to take her appeal she went to the man of God She went to the law. You know oftentimes when people find themselves and a hard situation be it financial or whatever they want to ask for help be it pride or whatever they won’t ask for help but she was not afraid to ask for help and she knew where to go she humbled herself and went to a lodging. And I should graciously opens a door to Heaven’s great blessings for this woman and her sons he asked her what shall I do for the well it wasn’t necessary for to answer because she already told him my husband is dead and the creditors are coming they’re going to take away my two sons she had a great financial need a debt that she had no means to pay God had already obliged obligated himself to care for widows and orphans and proverbs fifteen twenty five it says the Lord will destroy the house of the proud and he was stablished a border of the widow. He will establish the border of the widow in Jeremiah forty nine verse eleven it says Leave your fatherless children I will preserve them alive and let your widows trust in me there is where the widows are supposed to put their trust in the Lord this passage Jeremiah fits her situation perfectly she did trust in the Lord all she had to do was claim the promises of God playing claim the promises that God spoke to her through the prophet Elijah he said I will stablish your border and you trust in me she needed the claimant Ilyse a second question to the widow was this what do you have in the house what provisions do you have what do you have there isn’t an amazing that the instrument of blessing was something that she already had it was there in her house she had it God took what little she had in used it to bless her greatly her little tiny Giora boil which she thought to be a very little value God took it and blessed it abundantly when we belong to God we have it all you receive that when you have Jesus Christ you have it you already got it you have it all the blessing is already there too often we miss out on the blessing of God because we’ve failed to claim his promises that he made to us we fail to claim it we need to claim it walk in it and believe it by faith and God will honor his word we have everything we need in flippin for eighteen says Indeed I have all in a bound I am full having received from a proper diet is the thing sent from you a sweet smelling aroma an acceptable sacrifice well pleasing to God in verse nineteen and my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Jesus Christ. That’s how all of our needs are supplied through Christ Jesus our greatest need brothers and sisters is salvation that is beyond the doubt our greatest need in life and that is salvation to be reconciled with the Father and God has already provided it we have to claim it believe it reconciled to the father the mother found out that the possibilities are unlimited when you allow God to use what you already have you know what sometimes there are some preparation though that needs to be done she had to make preparation sometimes our preparation is prayer but she had to make preparation didn’t she she had to ask those sons to go out and gather vessels go borrow empty vessels she did not have any empty vessels in the house but she had to have empty vessels to receive what God had for right that was an act of faith first to believe what the prophet said and go gather vessels that was her first test of faith if she had not when gathered vessels she would not have received the blessing of God which he said Gather not if you go gather a bunch all you can find how many vessels would you have gathered the prophet said you go gather vessels would you when gathered four five ten were do you have went to even the surrounding neighborhoods filled the house with vessels how many would you gather as many as possible who. God says in Molokai three ten bring all the tide into the storehouse that there may be food in my house and try me now and this is a Lord of Hosts if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you so much so blessing so much blessing that there will be not room enough to receive and. She could have filled the house with empty vessels and every one of them would have been filled without a will God operates on faith when we fail to exercise our faith we fail to experience the overflowing blessing of God Her faith was determined by the number of vessels she gathered wasn’t. If she would have gathered twice as many see to had twice as many full pots but she only asked for enough to pay off the debt didn’t she and God provided that and more abundantly more said so she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons who brought the vessels to her and poured it out now came to pass when the vessels were full that she said to her son brimming other vessels and he said to her there is not another vessel so that oil ceased it ceased when they ran out of vessels what a miraculous supply of oil every vessel filled So when did they all multiply it did multiply when Eliza told her what to do did it it didn’t multiply when the vessels were gathered it didn’t multiply when she shut the door it didn’t multiply and so she went to that jar and began to pour doubt. That was her greatest act of faith this tiny little jar I don’t know if it was a quarter jar or point Joran F. but she began to pour and that’s when the miracle began and she began to poor filled one vessel jar still full of oil fill another vessel George still full of oil through another vessel I don’t know how big these vessels were jars still full of oil I kind of think of the lows in the fishes when I think about this passage they just keep breaking that bread off and again God bless them abundantly above because they gathered up twelve basketfuls or remnants didn’t. I think of Elijah he lives his mentor and the widow woman for three and a half years all she had was a little measurable oil and a little bit of flour he said will go prepare a cake for me while they ate off of that for three and a half years it didn’t run dry. That didn’t run dry until every vessel was filled God will bless abundantly above all that we ask and receive she acted in faith upon the Word of God. The only thing that stopped the blessing was when they got to the last past the last vessel and it was full so back to the question how many vessels would you gather to off them were satisfied with a little point and God wants to give us a tanker full blessing don’t limit God He wants to bless you abundantly above the phrase shut the door has a reference to prayer because we’re often told to get alone with God. Seek him to talk to him and ask for what we need he knows what we need. If your kid has if your kid needs something sometimes you wait till they ask right well with kids we should say they want something but we wait till they ask right we want to ask us them will bless them with it but prayer that is effective must be prepared for getting alone with God believing that God is going to answer our prayers and that we shall receive it we must believe we must have faith in our prayers they God is faithful. A life without prayer is a life of defeat prayer can mean the difference between success and failure in our lives we want to succeed go to the Lord take our concerns in our needs before him her faith was rooted rewarded she was able to sell that oil and pay off all of her debt but beyond that he said Now you and your sons live on the rest. Live on it way more than she asked that’s what who are God is He wants us to bless us abundantly give us more. If Asians three verses twenty twenty one says Now I want to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. According to the power of that work within us unto him be glory in the church by Jesus Christ throughout all ages without world without end Amen brothers and sisters that is what God has done for us that is the greatest blessing that we could ever ever asked for and that is for the forgiveness of our sins and to receive the Son Jesus Christ and or we and you know we look at this life well this life is like that little jar of oil it is it’s just tiny compared to eternity because eternity is like all the vessels in the world and no end it’s hard for my little mind to wrap the good that wrapped around what eternity really is the greatest and most wonderful blessing of all but not just to have eternal life but the spend with him. That is the greatest blessing to know that we can spend it with Jesus Christ and the father and all we must do is repent and believe and receive his wonderful blessing His gift of salvation Amen. If you have a need or need prayer these altars are always open you can come and pray and you can pray by yourself or will pray with you and my God shall supply. What you need is a man.
