Hebrews 8:1-13

Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man. 3 For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore it is necessary that this One also have something to offer. 4 For if He were on earth, He would not be a priest, since there are priests who offer the gifts according to the law; 5 who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle. For He said, “See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” 6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises. 7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. 8 Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the LORD. 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 11 None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” 13 In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

Exodus 19:3-6

And Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: 4 ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. 5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. 6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”

Message out titled The purpose of his covenant. God’s covenant with man and his US to sudden as they can this being the Christmas season and tried to you know. Focus on Christmas and when you think about his covenant. It is about Christmas. His covenant with man I’ll be speaking today and talking about both the Old and the new covenant that God. Instituted with man. Scripture first gripper this morning comes from Hebrews Chapter eight verses one through thirteen and hear the word of the Lord. Now this is the main point of the things we are saying. We have set a high priest who is seated at the right hand of the throne of majesty in the heavens. I’m going to pause. At the time of this writing. Approximately seventy eight D. or little bit before seventy A D.. They said we have a High Priest in our High Priest is Jesus. He is seated at the right hand of the throne of the majesty in the heavens great then at that time. Christ was at the right hand of the Father. First to a minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected and not man. For every high priest is appointed to offer. Both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore it is necessary that. This one also has something to offer. For if he were on earth. He would not be a priest. Since there are priests who offer the gifts according to the law. Who Serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle. Free said See that you believe see that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain. But now he has obtained a more excellent ministry in his much as he is also a mediator. Of a better. Covenant which was a stab in stone better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless than no place would have been sought for a second because finding fault with them he says. Behold the days are coming says the Lord. When I will make a new covenant with the House of Israel and with the House of Judah. Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt. Because they did not continue in my covenant and disregard of them says the Lord for this is the covenant that I will make with the House of Israel after those days says the Lord. This is the best part. I will put my laws in their mind and I will write them all in their hearts. And I will be their God and they shall be my people. The Old Covenant was written upon the scrolls written upon the tablets of stone. But the new covenant is written upon their minds and upon their hearts. Upon our minds in upon our heart. It’s none of them shall say or done of them sell teach his teeth. His neighbor. And none of them his brother sane. Know the Lord for all shall know me from the least of them to the greatest of them for I will be merciful to the UN rightists and their sins and their lawless deeds are remember no more. In that he says a new covenant. He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away. And then also from Exodus Chapter nineteen. Versus three through six and Moses went up to God and the Lord called to him from the mountain saying. Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob and tell the children of Israel. You have seen what I did to the Egyptians. And how I bore you on eagle’s wings and brought you to myself. Now therefore if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant. Then you shall be a special traitor to me above all people. For all the earth is mine. And you shall be to me a kingdom of priest and a holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel. And I’ll get to some more how they responded. For practical purposes we all probably understand what a covenant is a covenant is it is usually a formal or a solemn binding between agreement. A solid binding agreement between two or more parties to perform some action. It can be written a written agreement or can just. It can be under a seal. You know there was a day where an agreement could be made with just a handshake couldn’t. There’s many different. Covenants or green myths illustrated in the Bible. You know sometimes they take their shoe off and it have these crazy thing to go through to make a covenant agreement. You know we have the covenant agreement of marriage that we have today. Where we make a covenant agreement to be faithful when and true to one another told Death Do Us Part. And many times there was a seal. Placed upon an agreement. Would anybody like to venture a guess what God’s covenant seal of agreement was sealed with the blood the blood the blood is what may God’s covenant agreement with mankind. Binding. You know. Thinking about this and thinking about when I was teenager or younger growing up. I don’t. I don’t think it’s a practice today because of all the diseases and stuff but young guys use a. Maybe cut their fingers and they would put their fingers a gather more blood brothers man. Were Blood Brothers that was a sign I was a seal the blood made of what brothers. Please don’t do that today he wouldn’t recommend. Onery little bit more from Exodus Chapter twenty four. So Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord. And all the judgments. And all the people answered with one voice and said. All the words which the Lord has said. We will do you know we’re going to get more to rebut we were talking in the Sabbath school this morning and reading from Second Chronicles. And King Eisa you know. He began well. We got rid of all the false idols and all the Shira polls and all these things. But then he. Then he too went astray. You know. So many times Israel. They repented they followed God. But yet then they later turned turned or backs on God. But here they are with one voice say in all that the Lord says. We will do. But how long will it last. But we will do. And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord. And he rose early in the morning and build an altar at the foot of the mountain and twelve pillars according to the twelve tribes of Israel. Then he sent young men of the children of Israel who offered burnt offerings and sacrifice peace offerings of oxen to the Lord and Moses took half the blood and put it in the basins and half the blood and sprinkled on the altar. Then he took the book of the Covenant and read it in the hearing of the people. And they said all that the Lord a said we will do and be obedient and Moses took the blood. Sprinkled it on the people and said This is the blood of the covenant which the Lord has made with you according to all these words. So you see the blood was the seal of that covenant that God made with the children of Israel. God didn’t have to make a covenant with the children of Israel but he did he chose to. And here’s why I believe the main purpose or the sole purpose of his covenant with man. Whether we’re talking about the old covenant or the new covenant. Can be summed up with one word. And that word is relationship. Covenant can be summed up in one word. Relationship this think about marriage. It’s about relationship. The covenant that God created a made with man is about relationship. The main purpose is to get man into a right. Moral relationship with God. God give them all the rules and regulations you do these and I will bless you I will be with you get into right relationship with me in Hebrews or reading Hebrews verse eleven said for all shall know me know him. That means that you will know him personally have a relationship with him in Exodus it says that I brought you to myself. That would bring He brought them out of Egypt. To make them his own special people that he would have a relationship with them. So it’s about relationship Oswald Chambers said. It is a will of God that human beings to get into a moral relationship with him and his covenants or for that purpose. He said to some I asked why does not God save me. He has saved me. But I have not entered into a relationship with him. Cs already done it. He has saved you are human right more relationship with him that’s the question. Some may ask why does God not do this or that he has done it. Have you stepped into that covenant relationship with him. He’s already done it. The covenant is there. The new covenant is there. The covenant is already made it sealed. It’s been the livered. But man has to make the choice to step into that agreement that covenant relationship with God. Are we willing to step into it. You know some people may look at the old govern is a harsh set of rules and regulations that God made for the people to follow. Would be impossible to follow. But it’s they weren’t impossible to follow Jesus proved that he was without sin. But I believe that the Mosaic Covenant. Reveals God’s graciousness. Because he been in the Old Testament he was making a way that man could get right with him. All they had to do was follow what he had given them. You can see God’s graciousness and God’s blessings in Deuteronomy Chapter twenty eight verses one through six. Now it shall come to pass that if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God. To observe carefully all his commandments which I command you today that the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth and all the all these blessings so come upon you and overtake you. Because you a baby the voice of the Lord your God. Bless his cell be you in the city and bless it shall you be in the country. Blessed. So you. Sal be the fruit of your body. The produce of your ground and the increase of your herd so the increase of your Caddo and the OSS bring of your flocks blessed. Sal be your basket and your needing Bowl. Bless I’ll be blessed shall you be. When you come in and blessed shall you be when you go out. If they were faithful to God. Sharon gave me a book. And I actually just opened this this morning is started reading it. I want to read. Just a short little bit. Bit of this. In Al Sanders book. Crisis in morality he compares the descendants of atheists. Marx Jukes to the OSS bring of a well known preacher. Of that same air. Jonathan Edwards. And this truly reveals the blessings of God and in a more modern time. Max Jukes married an ungodly girl. And among her descendants were three hundred ten. Who died as paupers. One hundred fifty S. crim criminals. Seven as murderers. One hundred as drunkards. And more than half of the women were prostitutes. Jonathan Edwards lived at the same time. And married a godly girl. An investigation was made of one thousand three hundred and ninety four known descendants of theirs. Of these descendants thirteen. Became college presidents sixty five. College professors. Three United States senators. Thirty judges. One hundred lawyers sixty physicians seventy five army and navy officers. One hundred preachers and missionaries sixty authors of prominence. One vice president of the United States. Eighty became public officials and two hundred ninety five college graduates. Among whom were governors of states. And ministers to foreign countries. Do you think that God does not bless those who follow his ways. He does. He has and he does. He does still today. The covenant promises were right there. And they’re still there for us today. You know the covenant was the old covenant even was not perfect in a couple ways or one way. But it was perfect in that if man come unto him and followed his ways. The God would bless them. The only in fear R.T. In the Old Covenant. Is this that it only provided it’s temporary covering for man since it did not completely remove their sins. Because if you know the Old Testament you know that they had to come back every year and offer the sacrifices. So that’s the only inferiority of the Old Covenant. And as I was thinking is a come up with a strange illustration. When I was a teenager. Well our are younger. Mongol Richard always had a body shop. That he worked on automobiles and dad. Sometimes in the wintertime would often go and help and sometimes I’d go and work with them and help them you know just a fun thing to do as a kid. So they would work on cars and sometimes brought in they be wrecked cars. And they repair them. But sometimes the cars that were brought to me were. Rusty cars that needed. Repaired. So they bring these rusty cars in and. You know if they just want to have it done cheap they just want to get it patched up so they could sell or trade it in. They bring them in and they would take the grinder Nate just grand off some of the old rust. And they’d fashion a patch out of metal in space solder or mean a spot welded or braise it to the old Fender or the rocker pan or whatever. Then they would cover over it with body putty prime. Wark the body potties smooth it out prime it painted. And if they will if you’re real good body man. When at cars all done it looks like new. Now if they if you’re a body minister. You’re not so good. You can look down a sidecar and you’d see the waves in the putty. But Uncle Richard and with they were pretty good at it. So. But you’d bring the car in it be all rusty. Grand old stuff off put a patch over. Fix it up put outside it look like new. But here’s a problem with put in a patch over the no rusty home. Is going to come back. It might last a year. Might last a little bit longer but I can guarantee you is going to come back. First to see a little bubble. Then the bubble will grow and get bigger. Because you haven’t fixed the root of the problem. To put a patch over it. It’s going to come back. There’s an underlying problem in S. to root. You haven’t dealt with the problem. The Old Covenant. They had to keep coming back. Year after year year after year over and over. Why because it didn’t deal with the root of the problem. It just covered over it. Just like that all rush to discover over it make it look purty Heber’s thirteen it says. A new covenant. He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete is growing old ready to vanish away. You know. Back to the Carlist ration if you took your core of the body man it was an old beat up rusty thing. And he said I have the power to make that thing brand new. You’d say well let’s good. Yeah I want you to fix my car. But he doesn’t. But God does have the power to make us brand new he has the power to give us a new heart. That is how the new covenant is superior to the Old Covenant. Said I will write my laws upon their hearts. I can make them brand new. You don’t have to go back year after year after year. Here’s the new covenant superiority to the old. And second Corinthians five seventeen to nineteen. Says Therefore if anyone is in Christ. He is a new creation. The old rusty cars go long. If you’re going to refer to yourself as an all rusty car it’s gone. You’re a new creation I’m a brand new old things have passed away. Behold all things have become new. Now all things are of God who has reconciled us to him self. Through Jesus Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. That is that God in Christ reconciled the world to him self. Not into doing their trust passes to them and has committed to us. The word of reconciliation. God has reconciled. The world to themself. That is what covenant is about to reconcile mankind to him. Bring them to him as the main purpose of the Covenant. The forgiveness of sins relationship with God in Hebrews nine. Says but Christ came as high priest of the good things to come with a greater and more perfect tabernacle. Not made with hands that is not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves but with his own blood he entered the most holy place. Once and for all. Having obtained eternal redemption. Once and for all. Crisis not have to enter in repeatedly. Because he did it one time for the sins of man for the sins of those past. The sins of those living today. For the sins of those coming tomorrow. Christ died once and for all. For the sins of the world that is the new covenant. There was one more a couple verses from. Hebrews Chapter ten Hebrews is such a wonderful passage. Now I think this is where was that he was ten I think been beginning with the first ten says but that we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ. Once and for all. And every priest and ministry in Dalian offering repeatedly. The same sacrifices which can never take away sins. But this man. After he offered one sacrifice for sin for ever sat down at the right hand of God. From that time waiting till his enemies are made His footstool for by one offering. He has perfected forever. Those who are be sanctified. In that last verse. He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. And you think that contradicting itself. We have been perfected. But yet being sanctified. Yes we had been for perfected by the Blood of Jesus Christ. But we are being sanctified. It means we are being made holy is a process we go through we were kind of touching on that in seven school it’s a process that we will continue to be going through until we die or until Christ comes back. That we will continually. Be made holy that we would be sanctified. The more that we grow the more that we grow in the knowledge of the Lord. The more we know Him and become like him. Amen.
