The Sabbath

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it [is] a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that [ye] may know that I [am] the LORD that doth sanctify you.

And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

– If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, [from] doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking [thine own] words:

And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing [them] in [their] hands. Exodus 20:8-11 – Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first [day] of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. Mark 2:27 – And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left [us] of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

It [shall be] unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth [day] of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

But the seventh day [is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates:

Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:

Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day [is] the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work [therein]: it [is] the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.

And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the [mother] of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.

Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
